The most popular breeds of dogs in Greece

Each breed of dog has its own unique characteristics, so it makes sense for everyone to choose the breed that suits them best. Although half-breed dogs that are rescued from the street and find a warm home have become very popular in Greece and worldwide, there are certain breeds that are still very popular.

What are these breeds and what are the characteristics of each? Read on!

Labrador retriever

Our favorite Labradors are probably the sweetest dogs we will ever meet, as their faces exude innocence and tenderness. They are calm dogs that love to be petted and never get angry. This is, after all, the reason families with children prefer this breed.

Golden retriever

They belong to the same family as Labradors, but they have longer hair and their muzzles are slightly more pointed. Otherwise, they have the same characteristics as Labradors, since they are very friendly dogs and love children very much.

German shepherd

The wolf dog known to all of us is probably the most characteristic breed of dog. Smart and ready to serve his boss, he is a valuable assistant in security forces and rescue teams, since he considers it his duty to help and offer to people. A dog ideal for large free spaces, which with the right training can carry out even the most difficult missions.

Bulldog

He may give the first impression of a grumpy and grumpy dog, but in reality his funny appearance has nothing to do with his cheerful character. This is a relatively easy-going dog who loves cuddles and relaxing on the couch.

French bulldog

The French Bulldog is smaller than the English Bulldog, so it is especially popular for people who live in apartments. Another friendly dog for families whose needs for walks and activities are small. However, he constantly wants to be with company, so he is not suitable for people who are away from home for long hours.

Maltese

Maltese are the most beloved small breed, since they adapt extremely well to an apartment, but without losing their zest for play. It is, in other words, a breed that accompanies humans calmly, but at the same time it is also energetic and ready for any kind of activity. The Maltese needs a lot of care for its coat, since it needs regular washing and trimming.

Beagle

One of the most popular medium-sized dogs, the beagle is active and quite mischievous. Although he is very friendly with people, he still needs training and discipline, so that he does not make your life difficult with his demands and quirks.

Boxer

Boxers achieve something that is hard to find in any other breed. On the one hand they are very friendly with their people, but on the other hand they are very good watchdogs, as they are suspicious of strangers. In short, with the right positive training a Boxer can become the ideal companion in a family.

Cocker spaniel

Beautiful cocker spaniels are probably the happiest dogs you will ever meet. Always alert and ready to play, they love the company of people. Their main characteristic is that they constantly need relaxation and long walks due to their inexhaustible energy.

jack russell

The most energetic dog breed, the jack russell is truly immobile. He literally never stops, so he needs constant walks as well as training so that you can live with him without problems. On the other hand, of course, it is a very intelligent dog that will surprise you with its abilities!

Rottweiler

Contrary to popular belief, Rottweilers are not aggressive by nature. They are certainly dominant dogs characterized by exceptional muscle strength, yet they have a gentle nature with proper training. The goal in Rottweilers is to learn the basic rules of obedience, so that they can unfold their skills, intelligence and energetic behavior safely.
